Overview

Making water monitoring educational & interactive

BlockABloom’s mission is to create an elevated experience for the user as they independently learn how to monitor water quality under the influence of climate change. By simplifying complex information through visual aids we seek to ensure the safety and awareness of the public while contributing valuable data to research partners. Together, we can ensure that our natural water resources remain safe, clean, and accessible for generations to come.

The Problem

Addressing the impact of climate change on our water systems

Climate change is increasingly disrupting water ecosystems, leading to a rise in harmful algal blooms. These blooms pose serious risks to aquatic life, human health, and overall water accessibility. Through environmental reports, competitor analysis, and interviews with potential users, we identified major gaps in current tools: data is often scattered or overly scientific for public audiences, few platforms foster community engagement, and users are seeking a balance between informative visuals and simplicity.

Ideation

Ideation

Low-fidelity sketches

We began by creating detailed sketches to map the app’s flow and visualize user interactions across all key features. These included onboarding and authentication screens, a central home and tutorial flow, and areas for submitting and viewing algae bloom observations. We also designed interactive maps to display user-submitted data and environmental measurements.
